East Meets West in the Garden

Dan HinkleyDan Hinkley has lived and gardened in the Pacific Northwest since 1980. Inquisitive of the natural world inspired by both parents, he has traveled extensively during the past decades to observe plants in their rightful places in both the northern and Southern Hemisphere. Many of the plants he collected by seed have made their way into general cultivation through his own nurseries as well as a partnership with Monrovia. Besides his first garden, Heronswood, now owned by the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe but directed by Hinkley, he gardens with his two dogs, Henri and Babu with his husband Robert Jones at Windcliff in Indianola. He has just released his 4th book, Windcliff; A Story of People, Places and Gardens.

The Foundation is especially pleased that these businesses are continuing to support the King County Master Gardeners. To make this event even more special, these sponsors offered door prizes for some lucky attendees. Thank you to these sponsors for their generosity: Bellevue Botanical Garden, Bellevue Botanical Garden Society, City Peoples Mercantile on Sand Point Way, Dunn Gardens, Eastside Fuchsia Society, Fran’s Chocolates, McLendon Hardware, Wells Medina Nursery in Bellevue, Woodland Park Zoo and authors Nita-Jo Rountree, Jodi Helmer and Master Gardener Pat Roome.

Guests had a chance to win one of these doorprizes during the event. Here is the list of winners and Dan’s and Nita-Jo’s plant lists along with recipes for drinks from the garden to enjoy.
